I think this was a positive, humbling experience for Jean. Since gaining her telepathy, she has been treated with kid gloves, and has seen much of the future waiting for her, through Hanks memories.It is a bad combination.

Warren leaving was probably the dump truck that broke the camels back for her, in terms of being able deal with everything that is coming her way. Not only will it all end badly for her, but since coming to the future, the dissolution of her family is now going faster. The man she will love and marry grows up to kill their mentor, and she has to see him every day, as he is currently to her, knowing what is in store. Warren has now left all of them to go with that man. All her hopes and dreams are for naught. It is enough to make anyone snap.

When she tried to force Warren back to her way of thinking the Cuckoos disabused her of that idea, rather severely.

But if you look at her eyes, I think Scott stopped it at just the right time. Another moment or so, and I think she would have let lose a much stronger torrent than they could match, and the day would have ended rather tragically

This was probably the most human she has been since the series started. She is in a fragile state, and can no longer hide it..
